I'm real. I'm not just another pretty face. I have my own personality. I'm cool. I have a sense of humor…some might say I'm a bit squirrely. I have a bite to me in more ways than one. Why do I have my own space here? I'm glad you asked. Frankly, I know there's a real need. I read the papers (Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Barron's--you know, the standard investor stuff that the Wall Street guys read on the subway). I love Maria on CNBC. I always look forward to talking with the guys on "TheStreet." I'd really like to have my own "chat room." As you can see, I'm not your average squirrel. And, from what I read, see and hear, some of you guys need help. I know there's a real-desperate need for solid, easy-to-understand information - education on planning - saving - investing for retirement. As you can see, I've read a lot of prospectuses in my life. But, I don't give tips. I have to maintain my credibility. I'll leave that to the guys that Maria talks to. So, let's get on with it.
Lesson #1: What does a squirrel like me have in common with a human like you? We both need to know about saving and investing. I'm sure you've seen me or some of my cousins out there collecting a lot of nuts. What I am doing is eating some and saving the rest for later. And in the winter, when nuts are hard to find, I eat the "saved" nuts. How about you? Are you saving some of your nuts (money) for retirement? Are you squirreling away your money in your retirement plan at work? You'd be "nuts" not too. The moral of this story? If you want to have a comfortable retirement tomorrow, you've got to save-invest those acorns (money) today. We squirrels have it all figured out. I hope you do.
